[ Both hands of Edgeworth's are trapped in Mitsunari's as he faces him, head bowed a little in embarrassment. It's never been easy to confess his own feelings, especially in front of a crowd like this. Even though they're guests are all friends and close acquaintances, he can't help feeling a little foolish in being so openly sentimental. ]
Miles... I will admit that when I first met you, I did not anticipate standing here with you like this. Even through the months of friendship we shared, I had told myself repeatedly that this would all somehow be taken away from us or that eventually we would grow apart on this island with so many of the curses compromising our commitment to one another and temptations appearing at every corner. As time went on, I realized how harder it would be to say goodbye to you and to lose you.
[ His voice grows a little softer as he drops one of Edgeworth's hands long enough to cup his face and pull him closer to look into his eyes. ]
All I know is that no one else would have done for me what you would have, and no one else would have had the patience and perseverance to remain by my side during all difficult moments. Even if this goes against my own traditions, I find myself feeling more and more proud to be able to call you my husband with each passing day we spend together.
[ Another pause as he takes a deep breath, trying to maintain his composure before everyone, which is difficult when he feels so much emotion welling up behind his eyes an in his throat. ]
With these vows, I pledge to you that as a member of my family and my clan, I will protect you with everything I have and protect the home we have built from the ground up on this land. Until we are finally torn apart... and even after, we will share this unbreakable bond of marriage between us.
[ Mitsunari finally gives Edgeworth the tiniest of smiles. ]
I will belong to you and you to me. Thank you, Miles, for everything.
[ Hearing Mitsunari's vow does little for his own emotions, as he feels them swell with joy at each word. For a moment he doesn't know how to start, fearful that he might be overcome with doubt or stumble upon his words but- he steadies himself, feeling the confidence he needs by looking into those eyes that hold so much warmth for him.
He inhales softly, takes Mitsunari's hands in his and finally begins to speak. ]
I do not think simple words could express how honoured and joyous I am at being by your side today. Because of how ephemeral this world is, it was never easy to imagine I would ever find any sort of stability here, let alone happiness. But I did, and I found it in you.
[ His heart is racing, but his words sound even more sincere as he continues on, never once moving his eyes off Mitsunari's face. ]
Being in this place allowed me to meet the one person I may never had had the fortune of meeting otherwise. Like you, I could not imagine committing myself to another, especially in a land that only threatens to challenge one’s honour and dignity... and especially when we come from worlds and times so far apart that seeing you like this feels impossible even now.
And yet...
[ He gives him a quiet smile. ]
Yet you've not only accepted me as I am, but been my dearest friend through my best and worst moments. You've given me purpose to continue believing in this existence that I live in now and you've given me the strength to accept that there is such a thing as love and that it transcends time and reality. And most importantly...
You've given me a family to be a part of.
[ His father's image comes to mind, a wealth of feelings in those words and he has to pause before he can speak again, having to bite back his rising tears. ]
With this vow, I give myself to you as you have given yourself to me, to protect and cherish and grow with for however long we have in this land. I promise to support you and stay loyal to you, to love you and grow with you as your husband for as long as we have together, to stay with you in hard times and good ones, and to keep you as happy as you've made me.
No matter what our future is, this vow and promise I make to you here shall remain eternal, and I will be happy knowing that I spent each day here in this union with you. I am yours, in body, mind and soul.
[ He finally closes his eyes and breathes, before whispering the next words. ]
I didn't know true happiness until I found you, Mitsunari. Thank you, for everything.
